In the mid 1960's, Rafael González - along with its "sister" brand Rey del Mundo - were considered luxury Cuban cigar brands similar to Cohiba and Trinidad today.

In modern times, Rafael González is a smaller production brand and lesser known, but can still command attention with its above average quality. This was made clear when, in 2023, the Corona de Lonsdale landed on Cigar Aficionado magazine's annual top 25 list with a #23 placement. The review noted the "tremendous bargain" of this vitola, as well as the "spicy core of leather and cedar [and] coffee bean, earth and cinnamon" evident in the flavour profile.

The Corona de Lonsdale is essentially a Robusto size with a smoking time of roughly 60 minutes.
