The Quintero cigar brand, originally known as Quintero y Hermanos (Quintero and Brothers), was established in 1924 when Agustín Quintero and his four brothers opened a small cigar factory in Cienfuegos, Cuba. They began producing handmade cigars that quickly gained popularity.

However, in the early 1960s, following Fidel Castro's nationalization of the Cuban cigar industry, Quintero transitioned primarily to machine-made production, with most handmade sizes being replaced by machine-made or hand-finished cigars using short filler tobaccos.

Today - and since 2002 - all Quintero cigars are made by hand using short-filler leaf, which describes chopped up scraps of tobacco that burn quicker and hotter than premium long-filler blends. The trade-off is that Quintero cigars are also very budget-friendly, priced at one-half to one-third the cost of Cuban vitolas in similar sizes.
