My Father La Opulencia Toro

For a brand that's only existed since the late 2000's, My Father has racked up a staggering number of accomplishments. In addition to its massive popularity all across North America, it has attracted numerous accolades from Cigar Aficionado magazine. Most recently, the Flor de Las Antillas and Le Bijou 1922 series yielded number one picks on their annual top 25 list, in 2012 and 2015, respectively. This was followed shortly thereafter with an enthusiastic nod to the La Opulencia series in 2018.

None of this is surprising, though, given that the brand founder Don José "Pepin" Garcia was not only a Master Roller in Cuba (before leaving the country in 2001) but the head of Quality Assurance for the Cohiba brand in the 1990's. His experience and talent - combined with that of his son Jaime - were on full display with the release of the La Opulencia Toro in 2017, which was voted the second best cigar of the year in Cigar Aficionado just one year later. In their review, the magazine noted the "earthy underpinnings of chocolate and cocoa with each puff," as well as the increasing intensity of the flavours as the cigar evolves.
