For decades, the Turrent family was known for two things: their Te-Amo cigar series, and producing some of the finest Mexican San Andrés wrapper leaf in the industry. Te-Amo - a very popular brand in North America in the 1990's - has seen its popularity muted in recent years. The good news is the Turrents have replaced it with the arguably superior Casa Turrent brand.
Released a few years after the debut of the Casa Turrent 1901 series, the 1942 was about showcasing Mexican Criollo leaf just as the 1901 was a showcase for San Andrés Maduro. The 1942 features not only a Criollo binder, but Criollo-seed tobaccos in the filler mixed with San Andrés Negro seed and some medium-strength Nicaraguan tobaccos. The wrapper is a lighter, more pale version of the San Andrés colorado leaf that also adorns the 1901 series.
The abundance of Criollo in the 1942 makes for an earthy and spicy smoke, but a refreshing citrus flavour and some caramel sweetness is common as well. The 1942 Torpedo offers a burn time of roughly 75 minutes.
