For decades, the Turrent family was known for two things: their Te-Amo cigar series, and producing some of the finest Mexican San Andrés wrapper leaf in the industry. Te-Amo - a very popular brand in North America in the 1990's - has seen its popularity muted in recent years. The good news is the Turrents have replaced it with the arguably superior Casa Turrent brand.
Although the first Casa Turrents found their way to market in 2013, the popular 1880 series didn't see a proper release date until 2020. This is when the Turrent family expanded a blend they had created a few years earlier to a "Double Robusto" size with the option of four different wrapper leaves: Claro, Colorado, Oscuro, and Maduro. Feedback was good enough that the next year they expanded the portfolio to include four new sizes, including the Lancero and Perfecto.
The Claro is the mildest of the 1880 series, consisting of a Mexican Habano Criollo San Andrés claro wrapper with a Mexican Negro San Andrés binder and a mix of Mexican and Dominican filler. This results in a blend that combines woody and nutty flavours, with a hint of light spice emitting from the Criollo wrapper. The burn time for the Lancero is roughly 75 minutes.
