One of the great delights of the La Flor Dominicana brand is their willingness to take risks and experiment with blends and sizes that may not be to popular taste of the time. Some of their experiments include diminutive shade-wrapper cigars with surprisingly full-bodied strength; cigars using 100% Candela (green) wrapper leaf; and a limited edition made strictly for the Canadian market with a small maple leaf made of Maduro tobacco stitched into the centre.
One of their first experiments was the Ligero Salomon, which debuted in 2009. This massive 7x64 vitola was packed with Dominican ligero leaf surrounded by a Nicaraguan sun grown wrapper, and defied the common wisdom that large cigars should be in the mild to medium-strength range so as to be more manageable for such a long smoking time. And all this in a funky Figurado shape, a style which had (supposedly) fallen out of fashion by the 1930's.
But the Ligero Salomon has been successful enough that it is still being sold today, in its original form. With so much ligero leaf, the smoker can expect a strong spicy kick with some earthy and leathery notes as a complement. The Ligero Salomon Natural offers a burn time of more than two hours.
